Rank Descriptions
Alpha - [Most commonly one of each gender; can be more occasionally] The Alphas – sometimes known as the Alphen and Alphena - are the leaders of the pack and usually a mating pair. There are situations where this may not be the case. It is the original Alpha’s choice whether or not their ‘partner’ is their mate. Sometimes Alpha’s gain the position by winning the respect of the original Alpha. They are usually the only mating pair, again in many packs this is not the case. They are in charge of taking care of the pack and the members and act as surrogate parents to any pups who are orphaned if there are no god parents. They decide all the rules in the pack and are in charge of keeping both the territory and the members in line.
Alpha Heir - [Unlimited to a point, usually one main heir of each gender] The Alpha heirs are the Alpha's pups. The eldest pup, whether it is male or female, is the one chosen to take over after the Alphas die or step down. The eldest mate can also have this rank. The Heirs are pretty much second-in-charge, at least when they reach adulthood. If there is a case where both Alpha die before the Alpha Heir reaches adult hood the Advisor takes over the pack until the Alpha Heir can claim charge.
Advisor – [Only one, either gender] The advisor acts as a teacher to the Alpha heirs as well as an advisor to the Alphas whenever they request it of the Advisor. The advisor will be called upon if there is ever a case where the Alphas die and the Alpha heir is too young to take command. Advisors are usually the previous Alphen or Alphena, or someone with experience when it comes to taking control of the pack. They are trusted by the Alpha to care fore their heirs if they are away from the pack for any length of time.
Beta - [One of each gender] These are the second most trusted members of the pack. They are also advisors to the Alphas and help them with their decisions a lot of the time. They are third in command and one of them or both can take over if something happens to the Alphas and there is no heir. They are not always a mating pair but they can be and more often than not, are. They have the ability to invite members to join the pack, however they can not grant acceptance. Only the Alphas are permitted to do that.
Gamma – [One of each gender] Gamma are the third main rank of the pack. They work beneath the Betas and are often a mating pair – though again there are cases where they are not. The gamma pair are often promoted if anything happens to the Beta pair, if there is ever a case where both Alpha’s die, there are no heirs, and no betas, the Gamma take over the charge of the pack. They do not have they ability to order guards or warriors.
Delta – [One of each gender] Delta are the fourth main rank of the pack. Again these work beneath the others – often with the Gamma. They are often a mated pair but there are again cases where they are not. In the case of anything happening to all of the above ranks, Delta can take over the pack. They do not have the ability to order guards or warriors either.
Fighters - [Four; two of each gender] They are the main warriors and guards for the pack and make sure that the warriors and guards themselves train and are in good physical condition. They also make sure that the pups know how to fight. There are two fighters – one male one female – to command the guards, and two fighters – one male one female – to command the Warriors. They can be called upon by the Alphas at any time to ask about anything battle related.
Guard - [Five, usually male] The guards are there to protect the members of the pack itself. They are treated just like any other member of the pack except they have a certain job. They are often sent to patrol the lands and are usually sent with the higher ranked members to guard them during trips away from the pack lands. They act somewhat like body-guards and accept orders only from Fighters, Betas or the Alphas themselves. No others.
Warrior - [Five of either gender] The warriors, again, protect the pack, but in a different way. They can be either gender. They are usually the strongest wolves in the pack and are there purely to fight when the time comes. Warriors often work with the guards as a team and are often found training themselves. Their orders come from Fighters, Betas or Alphas only.
Hunter - [Unlimited, usually female ] Hunters are the one's who bring home food to allow the rest of the pack to remain in health. They are often seen only a night – due to hunting being best then – and are lead by the alphas, more often the Alphena. They are usually the most skilled in hunting and capturing – the more agile and speedy of pack members.
Godparents - [One of each gender] When the pack goes out to hunt, the elected god parents take it in turns watch over the pups. Also if one of the pup's lose there parent the god parents will be required to them in. If the god parents pass on their pups are the alphas. Godparents can be any member of the pack however they are usually older members of the pack who tend to be unable to keep up with the packs on hunts. Thus giving up their position of hunters or warriors to become godparents. If a pack had no god parents it is up to the Alphas to take care of any orphaned pups.
Scouts - [Three, of either gender] Scouts are usually the smaller wolves in the pack. They are used for spying on other wolves or packs and alerting everyone if there is a trespasser on the territories. They can also be used to send messages to another pack if that is needed. Scouts are often found upon the borders and are usually first to come across newcomers to the lands. Scouts should report to any higher member of the pack upon finding a trespasser.
Healer – [One, of either gender] There is only a single healer for each pack. The healer is often an older wolf who knows exactly what herbs and cures should be used on wounds and illnesses. He or she is called forward to treat injuries in battle and should always be prepared to be called in an emergency. They are not required to hunt nor guard, however they can request help from subordinates when it comes to collecting herbs or other such things.
Mid-wife – [One, always female] The mid-wife is often an elderly wolf who is often requested to be at births. She knows what eases the pain of a birth and as such is usually a valued female to the pack itself. Many of the new mothers – who are having their first litter – will come to her for advice. She is also required to explain the aspect of mating to pups who are growing into adulthood.
Subordinate - [Unlimited. Either gender, the starting rank for adults] These are the normal members of the pack. They don't have any specific job but can be used if they are needed. All new adult members to a pack instantly gain this rank. It is one of the lower ranks, however it can be gained upon or lost accordingly.
Pups - [Unlimited] These are the pups of the pack. Sometimes they are claimed in to the pack or born to a mother in the pack. They are the youngest members and never used as guards, broods, warriors or hunters. They are taken care of by their parents or – if they are orphans – by the Godparents or Alphas.
Elders – [Unlimited] These are the eldest members of the packs. Elders are no longer useful for fighting, guarding or hunting. They often act as advisors for the other members of the pack, or storytellers for the pups. They tend to be wise and are often asked any questions that the wolves of the pack wish to know the answers of.
Omegas - [Unlimited] Omegas are the very low in the pack. They are teased and tortured because of something they did to the Alphas such as major disrespect or they are seen as somewhat useless by the Alphas. Even if they are males, they are not allowed to leave the pack without permission. Omegas are classed as the lowest ranking members of a pack.
